The Madras University Senate House was built around 1875. This Indo -Saracenic structure was designed by Robert Chisholm.
The hall was closed to the public but was opened as a venue of Chennai Photo Biennale.

Beautiful ceiling.We have very few classical buildings left and I am glad there was an attempt at restoration. Mutthiah’s book on Madras shows over 270 colonial structures. What do we have now despite a few that have been engulfed by concrete monstrosities. Unfortunately due to excessive crowding we have lost the concept of space and setbacks in our architecture. Yes, Ramdas, there are very few heritage buildings remaining in Madras, for the reasons you mentioned. If you are here before 24th you can visit the Biennale at the Senate House.
