The Madras University Senate House was built around 1875. This Indo -Saracenic structure was designed by Robert Chisholm.

The hall was closed to the public but was opened as a venue of Chennai Photo Biennale.

  1. Beautiful ceiling.We have very few classical buildings left and I am glad there was an attempt at restoration. Mutthiah’s book on Madras shows over 270 colonial structures. What do we have now despite a few that have been engulfed by concrete monstrosities. Unfortunately due to excessive crowding we have lost the concept of space and setbacks in our architecture. Hari enjoy the old Madras- it will ultimately become CHENNAI
