Thirst for Freedom
“Endru thaniyum intha suthanthira daagam” என்று தணியும் இந்த சுதந்திர தாகம் sang Bharathiyar during the freedom struggle.
Those born after independence may not have the thirst for freedom but they sure have the fire of patriotism as can be seen from the artwork by children in a painting contest.
Don’t Chew: Eschew Plastic Straws
Plastic straws form one of the most ubiquitous and persistent non-biodegradable pollutants. Why us them when alternatives are available in the form of paper straws or better still, reusable bamboo or steel straws?
Competition
At Besant Nagar Beach on a Sunday morning. This street food vendor has placed himself opposite to the KFC outlet, yet doing roaring business with his ‘health’ foods under the colourful umbrella. Meanwhile, the child seems to be amusing himself with a hop skip and jump.
Temple Staff
Even wayside temples provide employment or livelihood for scores of people. This gentleman was probably a self-appointed caretaker of a wayside temple near the Perungudi Lake. He was active in cleaning up the place, helping devotees and even performing pooja for new vehicles.

The Jaguar Leaper
The leaping jaguar is the most prestigious hood ornament on cars, easily recognized, and looked at with awe.
The Jaguar Leaper has been missing in the recent models. Several theories are out there to justify this omission – safety (protruding element), technical (interferes with the new bonnet mechanism), and brand repositioning. For me, all these are unconvincing arguments. A Jag without the jag is no Jag, right?

Senior Citizen
Meet Mr.Kalyanam, the 84 – year old resident of the agraharam attached to the Kashi Vishwanathar Koil at Ayanavaram. Despite his age, he was quite energetic and was clearing the garbage to the nearby bin. He was very happy to narrate his old days in the agraharam as well as pose for photos.
