Chess is believed to have originated in India in the form of Chaturang. Yet, during my younger days, India did not have a single Grandmaster. We had a single International Master – Manuel Aaron. Many years later, Viswanathan Anand and others became a force to reckon with in the international arena. Today, we have a room full of Grandmasters and cupboards full of titles and trophies. The latest being Koneru Hampi who got her much-deserved Women’s Championship Title in Rapid Chess.
Here two young players use the Car-free Sunday on Besant Nagar to try their hand at a board of Chess.
